Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 18, 2026
AMBoard is a Chrome extension for adding notes, drawings, highlights, and images to AMBOSS articles. Your annotations are saved in your browser, not on our servers. This policy explains what the extension processes, why, and what control you have.
1. Information stored locally
When you use AMBoard, it stores the following information on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local:
- Notes and text formatting that you create.
- Drawing and highlighting strokes, including color, opacity, and thickness.
- Images you choose to insert into articles.
- Annotation positions, dimensions, and the AMBOSS article path and section identifiers needed to restore them in the right location.
This content may include personal information if you choose to write or insert it. AMBoard uses it solely to provide the annotation features you request.
2. Data collection, transmission, and sharing
AMBoard does not transmit your annotations or browsing history to the developer or to third-party servers. The extension does not create accounts, run advertising or analytics trackers, or sell or share annotation data.
AMBoard does not use tracking cookies or collect information from unrelated websites. If you export an annotation file, it remains under your control, and you decide where to save or share it.
3. Permissions and website access
AMBoard uses the storage permission to save annotations locally. It uses activeTab and scripting to activate the annotation interface on an AMBOSS page when you click the extension icon.
It does not request permanent host access, cookie access, or unlimited storage. Its page access is used to align annotations with articles and collapsible sections, not to monitor your browsing activity.
4. Your choices and data retention
Annotations stay in extension-local browser storage until you change or delete them or the extension's local data is removed. You can export and import annotation files using AMBoard's built-in controls. Uninstalling the extension normally removes its locally saved data, so export anything you want to keep beforehand.
AMBoard does not sync annotations across devices or maintain an online backup.
5. Security
AMBoard does not independently encrypt its locally stored annotations. Their protection depends in part on the security of your device and browser profile. Please do not enter patient-identifying information, medical records, passwords, or other highly confidential material.
6. AMBOSS and this website
AMBoard is an independent annotation tool. AMBOSS may use its own cookies and process data under its own privacy policy; those practices are separate from AMBoard.
This privacy-policy webpage contains no analytics scripts, advertisements, or tracking cookies. The service hosting this page may nevertheless process ordinary technical access logs in accordance with its own policies.
7. Policy changes and contact
This policy may be revised if AMBoard's features or data practices change. The updated policy will display a new revision date here.
For questions about privacy, please use the support contact listed on AMBoard's Chrome Web Store page.
